Discovering the Wonders of Pench National Park

Pench National Park, situated in the heart of India, is a natural gem that offers an enchanting wildlife experience. Spread across the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the park boasts an impressive biodiversity, playing host to a myriad of flora and fauna.

Location and History

Pench National Park derives its name from the Pench River, which meanders through the park, dividing it into nearly two equal parts. Its history traces back to 1975 when it was declared a sanctuary. Later, in 1983, it was elevated to the status of a national park and was designated as a Tiger Reserve in 1992 under the Project Tiger initiative.

Flora and Fauna

The park’s vegetation is predominantly tropical dry deciduous, with teak being the most prominent tree. However, one can also find other species such as bamboo, mahua, amla, and ghost tree. The undulating terrain, rich soil, and river create a diverse ecosystem that supports an incredible variety of life forms.

Pench is primarily known for its thriving population of Royal Bengal Tigers. Additionally, the park is home to a plethora of other species like leopards, wild dogs (dholes), Indian bison (gaur), and various types of deer – Sambar, Chital, and Muntjac. Bird enthusiasts would be thrilled to know that the park boasts over 210 species of birds, including migratory ones.

Safari Experience

A safari through Pench National Park provides an unrivaled opportunity to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Visitors have the option to choose between jeep and elephant safaris. One of the most thrilling parts of the safari is tracking the tigers.
